PROYECTO COMUNITARIO - GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS)

The main purpose of this investigation is to save lives. Information is power, and this investigation’s main objective is to empower residents of Puerto Rico to make informed decisions on where it would be safer for each of them to shelter-in-place during the emergency, while also identifying which areas are less likely to have timely arrival to an emergency shelter or hospital in the middle of the hurricane. Identifying these communities and municipalities will allow first responders and residents of Puerto Rico to better understand their realistic window for a safe evacuation, while also helping decision makers to develop contingency plans for these vulnerable areas.

This information is being published in English and Spanish to ensure widest dissemination.
